EMK Center

Created in 2012, the EMK Center is a non-partisan platform committed to open dialogue, informed action, individual and artistic expression, and personal & professional development. The Center is co-managed by the American Center of the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka & University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).

The EMK Center honors the legacy of public servants worldwide, exemplified by U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy, who was moved to take action during the Liberation War of 1971, and throughout his life in support of his convictions. In February 1972, Senator Kennedy planted a banyan tree on the premises of the University of Dhaka. Today, it continues to stand tall as a living tribute to friendship, resilience, and hope.

The mission of the EMK Center is to engage, inspire, connect and empower citizens of all ages, races and socioeconomic backgrounds to better themselves, their communities and the world through our 5 core pillars: Inclusive Entrepreneurship, Promotion of Arts and Culture, Advancing STEM through MakerLab, EducationUSA and Youth Employability.

The Edward M. Kennedy Center for Public Service and the Arts recognizes the potential of a person and provides a platform to showcase their aptitude.

Change Your Thoughts Change The World

    21 Dec 2021 – 31 Jan 2022

Violence against women and girls is a 'global pandemic' that affects 1 in 3 women in their lifetime. In Bangladesh, it is a common phenomenon. During the COVID-19 pandemic, rape against women and children has increased along with domestic violence. Since 1999, 25 November has been observed as the 'International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women.' We need to put an end to the violence against Women and Children. That's why a 16-day activism campaign titled ' Break the silence, eliminate violence' was set to be launched by KrayonMag on 25 November 2021. As part of this campaign, an online photography and painting exhibition has been arranged at the EMK center to express KrayonMag's strong stance against gender-based violence. We need to put an end to the violence against Women and Children. We need to change the way of thinking of our society. That's why the exhibition is titled: 'Change Your Thought Change The World.' Beyond Gender Roles

    25 Nov 2021 – 10 Dec 2021

In our day-to-day life, we often experience that the roles of a human beings are decided based on their gender, instead of their potential, interest, or capabilities in the different communities. From EMK Center, as a part of the global campaign of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, we want to know and let the world know how our artists like to see the world free of gender roles.
