    Community Connections

    08 Jul 2021 – 08 Aug 2021

Studio C Prospect's Community Connections program was developed to help connect people currently experiencing isolation or mental/physical health challenges. The uniquely tailored programming focused on building essential skills, empathy, self-esteem, and community connections through the creation of weekly self-reflective art projects, while also supporting the development and use of stress-relieving coping skills for participants through its duration. This exhibition is a celebration of the thoughtful and courageous work of the artists involved.

    Our Expressions

    01 Apr 2021 – 01 May 2021

Clothing is so much more than just something we cover ourselves with. Clothing is protection, its warmth, it's expression! Clothing holds memories and emotions. It can be a way to communicate our values. The artists in this show have conceptualized these complex emotions and their joyful perseverance through adversity. Join us in celebrating their unique personalities through their colourful clothing patterns.

    Indigenous Motherhood, Matriarchy and Womxnhood

    01 Mar 2021 – 01 Apr 2021

"Inspired by the recent birth of my son, this exhibition explores motherhood, matriarchy and womxnhood through an Indigenous lens. Colonialism has profoundly impacted the matriarchal systems, traditional child rearing practices and the gendered identities of Indigenous womxn. Despite this, Indigenous womxn display a fierce resilience; providing strength to our communities and passing on wisdom for generations to come. This exhibition brings together the artwork of 23 Indigenous artists of diverse artistic practices and backgrounds from across Turtle Island." -Autumn Whiteway (Night Singing Woman) Artwork credit: Maryanne Lindberg

Midnight In Space, National accessArts Centre

    14 Jan 2021 – 14 Feb 2021

Exhibition Statement: This exhibition is the first curated by Michelle Bennie in a pilot program that expands exhibition process. Taking cue from the ways Michelle works in her visual arts practice, we began with the title “Midnight in Space”. The title is the first step Michelle takes in a new project. Michelle then recorded a list that described what “Midnight in Space” meant to her: Dreaming Shooting stars/shooting sheep North pole Goat, sheep, reindeer Sleighs Christmas tree Going to the farm Seeing Santa at midnight Basement suite with my artwork all night long (until midnight) Multi-colour everything A black multi-coloured goat Joseph’s technicolour dream coat Fireworks in space Michelle selected artworks by her peers at the National accesssArts Centre that she felt suited the theme. She would describe the things she saw in the artwork and the ways it connected to the exhibition title, sometimes renaming the works. She also divided the works into the subcategories of subcategories of Valentines Enchanted Kingdom, Fantasy Land Hotel in the Jungle, Haunted House Magic Kingdom, Taj Mahal at Magic Kingdom and Greenhouse. Each of these exhibitions are given their own room, to represent the ways Michelle sees the works as a collection. Michelle’s decision to include her own interpretations in the way the works are presented demonstrates a freedom to connect to artworks in our own ways.
