    Shin Han-Chul 'Dreams Gathered'

    25 Nov 2020 – 15 Dec 2020

Shin Han-chul’s works are all about spheres, lots and lots of them. The sculptor continues to explore his favorite geometrical figure in diverse configurations and shapes. An average-sized work weighs around 14 kilograms (31 pounds), but the spheres, crafted in stainless steel and hollow on the inside, are supported delicately on a thin pole. While the sphere clusters coated in blue musters thoughts of grapes and the reddish balls sparkle like Christmas ornaments, it’s not hard to associate Shin’s pale gray and dark red foamy creations to something a little more ominous. But these spheres are far from malicious. In fact, the artist intended to symbolize the different communities within Korean society through the spheres in hopes that they would overcome their differences and harmonize. “Spheres are organisms that contain both yin and yang. It’s a perfect shape that doesn’t have a top or bottom, nor left or right, You have to respect the other groups within society to earn respect for yourself. There are both larger and smaller spheres in my works, but they are in harmony. We need to be generous and understand each other to reach that kind of harmony in real life. I usually refer to my spheres as ‘dream clusters,’ in the hope of signaling something optimistic.” Shin Han Chul Born in Yesan, Chungnam and graduated from the Department of Sculpture and the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Seoul National University. He opened 10 solo exhibitions (Gallery Hyundai, Kumho Museum of Art, etc.). The War Memorial of Korea, the Korean War Symbolic Sculpture Project (2003). Works at Seoul Museum of Art, Gyeonggi Museum of Art, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, Art Bank, Jeil Pharm, Adelscoat cc, Seongnam Sujin Park, Incheon Grand Park Sculpture Park, and Asan Hospital.

    Shin Kihyuk 'Landscapes'

    05 Nov 2020 – 06 Dec 2020

Born in South Korea in 1985, young artist Kihyuk shin who is interested in the magic of illusion shows us in this exhibition 'landscapes' artwork series by using oil painting made on panel and using art technique that uses realistic imagery ‘Trompe-œil’ to create an optical illusion. The depicted objects exist in three dimensions so that the eye of the viewer is deceived into thinking that a painting is actually a real existing object by the deceptive application of the rules of linear perspective. He doubted the importance of planarity which has been highlighted since the abstract art movement was on the rise and focused on the expression of the spatiality as visual art. During the working process, he projects various images on the cube like object in order to select the one which can maximize the spatial effect and draw it on the specially modified canvas. And he puts mythological images or masterpieces on this space in the total new context. This “dépaysement” produce narrative elements showing the double illusions in one scene. The visual incompleteness in his painting makes viewers actively immersed in the works. His art has been influenced by famous British artist Patrick Hughes who is famous for inverse perspective and three dimensional painting and Dutch painter Samuel van Hoogstraten who lived in the 17th century. info@helioart.co.kr + 822 511 3201

    Hur Boree 'Grass Fire Water'

    03 Nov 2020 – 04 Dec 2020

Grass. Fire. Water The title of the exhibition, Grass Fire Water is a display of the images from; When the green alongside the street becomes empty, where once was dense. A match flamed for a moment to light the birthday candle. Grandmother's body without moisture. All three of them as a similarity in temporariness. 'My Grandmother was like a withered grass when I saw her a few years before she died. While I was massaging her legs, I suddenly reminded me of the moment, that I picked the withered flower from the vase to throw it away. The touch of her legs was the same with the withered flower. Vanitas Paintings, which I always loved, slid by. I wanted to capture the process of the falling of blossoms on an image, as it is likewise the human life. The repetition of painting and erasing has no difference with the thing that we are struggling to live.I wiped the image I drew yesterday out, which was less withered than today, and recorded today on it. Erasing the paintings was a bit regrettable, as it feels like I was vandalising my labours. However, it seems that I wanted something vague. Like the yesterday, our tomorrow is also unclear.'
