This Is Black AmeriKKKa envelops the thoughts of three artists who transformed their experiences as Black men living in America through art and film. Jamal Hall, Robert Harrell Jr. and Marc McDonald explore and create thought provoking images that allow for internal introspection. Simultaneously, this poignant exhibit will touch upon the underlying landscape of violence that runs tandem with the experience that is often aligned with Black American.

    Liminal Spaces and Nowhere Places

    10 Sep 2021 – 03 Oct 2021

Rachel’s art is emotional and evokes self-reflection. She paints abstract works, expressionist works, and dreamy landscapes that feel organic, textural, and mysterious. Each piece has layers, depth, and movement. Her work reflects liminal spaces, or thresholds—transitional spaces between states of consciousness, phases in life, mindsets, or even physical places. It communicates growth or transformation, and the powerful emotions that can accompany it. Her paintings often have portals, or openings, as primary elements. Many works incorporate properties of the Earth’s topography and nature. And there is a sense of solitude, of looking from the inside out—or from the outside in. She works intuitively, allowing the work to guide her as she paints. She is constantly exploring, and discovering meaning and themes that emerge in her art.
