    Constantin Schroeder Malerei/Painting

    15 Jul 2021 – 15 Jan 2022

Constantin Schroeder's paintings encourage interpretation. The pictorial contents of his enigmatic, sometimes absurd, concise oil paintings imagine everyday life, visions or are reminiscent of film settings. At the centre of his works is the human being, from the modern hero to the lonely rambler or the fallen angel, the figures are depicted in an idealised manner, trying to find their way to identity in phantasmagoric scenarios. The white element, the omitted shape of an object recognisable only in outline, is found in many paintings. Schroeder's "blank spaces" are participatory elements that involve the audience in the interpretation of the painting. These points of indeterminacy create a cognitive irritation in the viewer, while at the same time offering the possibility of subjectively concretising the content of the painting. They lend the paintings an astonishing visual appeal and underline the narrative pictorial content. As psychograms, they poetically illustrate fears and doubts that we ourselves know in different facets. A print catalog of Constantin Schroeder's current painting has been published by the publishing house ArtInFlow.

Una H. Moehrke. Weiß - das All der Farben. White – The Whole Cosmos of Color

English version --- What is there to see when painting presents little more than silence, emptiness and space? The association of movement and the open horizontality of its meaning. The factor of emptiness makes itself known in the reduced lines of the drawing's space, like a fluorescing gesture between the colors, shadows and lines of the painting. Beyond all representational imagery, the possibility of that which can be seen and that which has being stands poised on the balance of noumenon and phenomenon. White is dominant, the visible response of a surface to light, creating openly supportive, hovering image spaces. Una H. Moehrkes interest as an artist is in a philosophical view of the image which excludes reification, creating a breadth of import and referencing universal questions. She is a painter who paints her pictures into invisibility. She fathoms how far classical visual language can be dissolved when it is reduced to the bottom of painting, where it is only about light and shadow. Her canvases are mirrored surfaces that change with every perspective. At times an expressive, contrapuntal gesture disturbs the calm of the picture and continues the tradition of lyrical abstraction. Beauty - on the borderline between visible and invisible - consolidates the complexity of our world in abstract reduction and becomes a likeness of our own mental lines.
