Berlin's Kunstmatrix establishes a novel three-dimensional presentation of art online
Kunstmatrix is used by galleries such as Hamish Morrison and Christian Hosp and auction houses like Bassenge and Hauff & Auvermann.
Prof. Eugen Blume: „Kunstmatrix represents a sensational development in professional art exhibitions".
Authentic perception of the exhibits' interaction in virtual space.
Authentic, vivid, three-dimensional exhibition experience in virtual space: For six months now, new Berlin company Kunstmatrix has been offering its idea of a professional means of presentation on the Internet. Rather than clicking through static photo copies of the works presented in an exhibition, Kunstmatrix visitors can freely move within a 3D version of the exhibition. In addition to paintings, the visitors can thus experience sculptures, light installations and sound art in space for the first time. They can perceive the exhibits' interaction within the specific spatial settings. It is possible to get close enough to a work of art to examine even individual strokes of the brush.
Architects Christoph Lauterbach and Hartwig Bentele and programmer Kristian Hildebrand have founded Kunstmatrix in 2008, when they were students of the Technische Universitaet Berlin. They strive to represent art and every aspect of art as realistic as possible for those interested in art. Kunstmatrix manager Christoph Lauterbach: "We aim to set standards. We want to be market leaders, technologically and aesthetically, in three-dimensional art presentation on the Internet."
Numerous renowned galleries, e.g. Hamish Morrison and Christian Hosp, and auction houses like Bassenge and Hauff & Auvermann rely on this trendsetting planning software to make high-quality access to their art available to collectors all over the world. At the same time, the software serves as an archiving tool and makes test hangings of complicated works of art easier for curators. Artists such as Heinz Handschick, Volker Henze and Ted Marshall embrace the possibilities of art representation that does not depend on galleries.
With this business idea, the company has won the national start-up competition held by the German Federal Ministry Of Economics and Technology in 2008.
